Crisis Committee

Dear Delegates,

My name is Mira Gharaibeh, a student at Ahliyyah and Mutran, and I have the pleasure of presiding over and welcoming you all to this year’s Crisis Committee, which promises to be a place where debate is heated and betrayals must be expected.

Every Crisis Committee is unique, and it is my most sincere hope that this year’s will be among the very best. I can’t promise that you will attend every day of the conference with your eight hours, I can’t promise that you will have sufficient military for every move you want to make, nor can I promise that you won’t leave this conference questioning everything you know about MUNs, because two years ago, when I was in your very same position, mentally preparing myself for my first Crisis Committee, all previously mentioned realities hit me, and I was in awe; in awe of the possibilities, the tension, and the growth crammed in those three days.

I have been an active member of the MUN community for four years, recently occupying Debate and Crisis team positions, and during that time, I learned that success in Crisis cannot be taught in the way parliamentary procedure can, it is not about knowing the rules, it is about finding loopholes and exploiting them when they best serve your purpose.

Crisis Committees are not only about debate, they’re about self-preservation, exploitation, and knowing exactly who to trust and when or if to take advantage of that trust. I expect each and every one of you to turn the committee into a battlefield; metaphorically, of course.

Here’s to your rise (or fall),

Mira Gharaibeh,

President, Crisis Committee
