UN Women (UNW)

Dear Delegates,

Welcome to the United Nations Women’s Committee (UNW) at AQMUN 2025! My name is Julie AlMadani, and I am a rising junior at the International Academy – Amman. I am honored to serve as your President for this year’s conference. With the support of my chairing panel, I am confident that this committee will be a meaningful and memorable experience for all of us.

This year’s theme, Empowering the Excluded, lies at the heart of both our agendas. Female ex-combatants in Colombia face deep-rooted stigma and are frequently excluded from reintegration efforts. Our first agenda gives you, as delegates, the opportunity to change that by exploring genuine strategies for sustainable reintegration that acknowledge both their contributions and their challenges.

Through our second agenda, you will be called upon to confront institutional failures and explore how protection mechanisms can be restructured to deliver meaningful impact where it matters most. Too often, protection frameworks collapse under the weight of bureaucracy or neglect. This leaves women in conflict zones, especially those in the DRC, without recourse or refuge, depriving them of human rights and basic necessities.

Let understanding guide your discussions, demonstrate your commitment to the greater good through debate, and let cooperation lead the way. I am confident that you will step out of your comfort zones, especially in a world where words carry more power than force.

May your voices echo for those who have been silenced.

See you on the 21st of August!

Your President,

Julie AlMadani
